Since the spring of 2023, we have been producing various lifestyle products such as tableware with the desire to enrich our daily lives with African textiles drawn by CLOUDY creators who are active locally.

At this pop-up store with the theme of "CLOUDY to wear, eat, and color", we will introduce 8 items each of 6 patterns of tableware with bold designs of CLOUDY's original textiles on NIKKO's pure white plates. Not only can it be used as a gift for guests, but it can also be used at home to brighten up your table.  10% of the sales of this event will go to the certified NPO CLOUDY ( https://cloudynpo.org/ ) will be used to fund the activities of “School Meal Action” in Ghana, Africa.

At CLOUDY SCHOOL, which we run, we always provide school lunches. Many of the children's parents did not receive a school education themselves, and they do not have a sufficient understanding of school education. Many parents say, "If they can eat school lunch, they can go to school," and we are continuing our school lunch action to provide them with an opportunity to go to school.

Furthermore, from 2021, we started a field called “CLOUDY FARM”. Starting from plowing the land next to the school, we make a field, involve the students, and grow vegetables through trial and error. This FARM project, which started with the active involvement of local people, not only grows the vegetables used in school lunches, but also utilizes the know-how cultivated through farming. We hope.

  • African fabric items and handwoven baskets

CLOUDY utilizes the technology rooted in the lifestyle and culture of people born and raised in Africa to create an environment where they can continue to work in their own way.

CLOUDY's colorful African fabric items are produced at CLOUDY's sewing factory located in Ghana. Most of the workers are women and people with disabilities. Very few people can sew well the first time. We set up a training period, first learn from measuring the size, and practice sewing straight, and as you gradually improve, you will be able to handle products such as aprons that have a complicated production process. There are many mothers who migrate from rural areas to work alone, and I inadvertently respect the way they work hard to send money to their families and the way they strive to improve.

And a traditional craft basket that is a specialty of the Bolgatanga region in northern Ghana. The Bolgatanga region was not suitable for large-scale cultivation due to the unfertile soil and unpredictable weather. One of the skills that people have improved in such an environment is weaving baskets. Each one is hand-knitted, so it takes about 10 days to make it wholeheartedly. The material is guinea grass, which is an aquatic plant. By spraying water, you can adjust the shape of the basket bag. In addition, it is also durable, so it is practical.

Fabric items (aprons, table runners, luncheon mats, etc.) will be delivered to the Isetan Shinjuku store from Ghana, including baskets that have been woven over time.

  • "CLOUDY CREATIVE ACADEMY" also trains textile designers

CLOUDY's textile designers in Ghana create original textile designs every month. There are also designs inspired by traditional African patterns and textile designs that incorporate motifs unique to modern times. In addition, we have opened the “CLOUDY CREATIVE ACADEMY” to nurture the next generation of creators, and are continuing activities to increase future career options.

■What is NIKKO?

Founded in 1908. It has long been used by professionals who demand high quality and durability, such as hotels and restaurants. In addition, from raw material processing to the final process, NIKKO consistently conducts production at its own factory in Ishikawa Prefecture, making it the only ceramic manufacturer in Japan that boasts a large production volume. It is the existence of one.

In order to continue making ceramics for the next 100 years, and to continue to protect the richness of food and the time to enjoy it, we will break away from the linear business model based on the premise of mass production, mass consumption, and mass disposal, and create products. We are aiming to change to a circular business model in which once procured resources continue to circulate in society as much as possible, we will consider designs that do not generate waste from the stage. As one of them, we have established a technology to recycle bone china into fertilizer in order to realize a society where tableware is recycled without being discarded.

Nikko is working to create a cycle that surrounds "food" together with all kinds of people, including restaurants, agricultural producers, and consumers.
